The Ye family, leaders of Lingzhou's martial arts world, are betrayed by their allies the Shaws, who join foreign forces to massacre them. Vivian Ye, daughter of the Ye patriarch and pregnant with Ryan Shaw's child, escapes and gives birth to triplets before collapsing.
