His Highness confronts his guard after discovering Ming Yue's secret visits to her brother, a transgression the guard believes warrants death. Instead of punishment, the ruler bans the word 'death' in his presence. Later, while buying flowers for Yue, he is moved by the vendor's resemblance to his late sister. Overwhelmed by a fear of abandonment, he extracts Yue's promise to stay with him forever, a vow she readily gives, finally fulfilling his deepest wish.
